The Jamaican authorities advised OLAF that the aforementioned Jamaican supplier companies ceased their business activities in late January 2005 which caused huge disruption to the employment situation in Jamaica because these companies were said to employ approximately 2,000 people. According to the information received by the Jamaican authorities from the companies concerned, the reason for the discontinuation of their business activities was the fact that the Multifibre Agreement ceased to apply at the end of the year 2004. The Multifibre Agreement limited the importation into the Community of textiles originating in the PR China by quantitative restrictions per textile category.
