Uit geen van de door de Generieken genoemde documenten blijkt, dat men escitalopram in die zin werkelijk 'in handen heeft gehad', ook niet in het artikel 'Stereochemical considerations of the actions of some Psychotropic drugs' van D.F. Smith in Pharmacopsychiatry, 18 (1985) 225-230 (prod. 2, bijlage 12, Tiefenbacher) waarin is vermeld: 'Citalopram is also a racemic drug with antidepressant properties, and it is a potent inhibitor of serotonin uptake (Hyttel 1977). The enantiomers of citalopram have, however, never been investigated separately for either their effects on serotonin uptake or their antidepressant efficacy. Judging from the configuration of the enantiomers of citalopram compared to those of tranylcipromine, one might expect (R)-citalopram (X) to be more potent than its antipode as serotonin uptake inhibitor. If so, then studies on the therapeutic efficacy and side effects of the enantiomers of citalopram would be of interest.'
