“Investigators from 21 clinical study centers participating in a wordwide study of the Advantage aortic bileaflet prothetic valve enrolled 639 subjects with implants in the aortic position from 1999 (lees:) to 2003. In 2003 Medtronic was alerted to an unusual performance characteristic of its Advantage valve. On rare occasions and in only some patients, the valve did not seem to close completely. Medtronic refers to this phenomenon as intermittent regurgitation (IR). Six observations of IR by color Doppler echocadiography were supported in this cohort during the period of 2003 - 2005.
