The funds [C] used to provide the loans to the Dutch Companies were raised from the investors outside the [A] Group, originally in the form of relatively small short term loans (usually up to six months) from individual investors, later also in the form of larger amounts of publicity listed longer term bonds. The amounts raised on these loans and bonds were earmarked for the loans to the Dutch Companies from the start and administered, together with the loans to the Dutch Companies, in a separate trading book, coded ALM4, that was specifically created for that purpose. In that way the loans to the Dutch Companies could at all time be traced to (parts of) one or several external loans or bonds.
